SSMC promotes Dan Curtin to CowManager Sales Acceleration Specialist
Select Sires Member Cooperative (SSMC) is pleased to announce the promotion of Dan Curtin to CowManager® Sales Acceleration Specialist for the cooperative. In this role, Dan will drive CowManager sales and service throughout West Texas, New Mexico, and Arizona.
CowManager’s unique ear sensor measures ear temperature combined with eating, rumination, and activity. With the fertility module, health module, and nutrition module, CowManager provides real-time information with accurate and early alerts. This monitoring system results in increased pregnancy rates, healthier cows, reduced veterinarian costs and labor, improved production, lower mortality rates and decrease in use of synchronization programs and antibiotics.
After completing an artificial insemination course at the Graham School for Cattlemen in Garnett, Kan., Dan chose to pursue cattle breeding as a full-time career. In 2015, he was hired by the cooperative and became a relief A.I. technician through the newly developed ProTECH training program. As their first ProTECH graduate, he then built his own breeding and sales route in western Washington, quickly scaling to a 100-head-per-day business. At the same time, he served in a training and consulting role with the cooperative, working closely with producers to improve reproductive performance and on-farm outcomes. Dan transitioned to a genetic and reproductive advisor role for SSMC in the southwest, putting his consulting knowledge to use for the herds in West Texas and New Mexico. His ability to troubleshoot on-farm issues and use farm data to solve problems earned him the honor of being recognized as a Select Reproductive Solutions (SRS) Specialist of the Year in 2022.
“As my role continues to evolve with SSMC, I am excited to introduce large herds to CowManager technology and help continue to grow our cooperative into a leader in both cow monitoring and genetics. I want to help SSMC member-owners improve efficiency and profitability through CowManager’s herd-monitoring systems. Working with producers to develop new protocols, measure progress, and translate data into actionable decisions is extremely rewarding. Seeing technology make a real, measurable difference on the farm is what drives me in this new role.” shares Curtin.
“Dan has been an integral part of the SSMC team, always looking to expand his knowledge and service to help our customers and the SSMC team. We are excited for Dan on the next step in his professional career,” shared Matt Eaton, Area 5 Business Director, who oversees this territory.
With a passion for continuous learning and undertaking new challenges, Dan graduated from the Young Dairy Leadership Institute (YDLI) in 2025. He is strengthening his ability to support producers as both a technical resource and a trusted business partner as he works toward a Business Management degree at Eastern New Mexico University.
Dan and his family ranch in eastern New Mexico, where they focus on producing high-quality beef and replacement cattle. He is actively involved in the local community as an elected official on the Border Soil and Water Conservation Board and as a volunteer with the Elida Fire and Rescue crew.
