SSMC Promotes Colten Carlson to Regional Manager
Colten Carlson has recently been promoted to the Regional Manager position in the 1-29 corridor of South Dakota, Minnesota, and Iowa by Select Sires Member Cooperative (SSMC) after serving the interim role. In this position, he will provide leadership in sales management, focusing on planning, promotion, and coordination of programs to achieve balanced goals that support the SSMC team. Colten will also build strong customer relationships and ensure exceptional service for producers.
While working at SSMC for over five years, Colten has served in a variety of roles. After graduating from South Dakota State University with a bachelor’s degree in dairy production, he started as a relief technician in 2021 and worked with the ProTECH team in Central Minnesota. Before becoming a full-time Professional A.I. Technician in the areas of Willmar and Kerkhoven, Minn. Colten then transitioned to the I-29 region where he became a Key Client Specialist before being promoted to interim Regional Manager for the region. Now, Colten has taken the role full-time and will serve both producers and employees in the I-29 area.
Colten has deep ties to the dairy industry and grew up on a 2,000-cow dairy. Throughout his time at SSMC, he has shown his passion for dairy producers and has always looked to improve. Colten stated, “I am most excited to continue to learn from producers and how SSMC can best support them. I also look forward to working more closely with everyone on my team and growing together with them.”

Outside of work, Colten helps at his family’s dairy which keeps him continually connected to the industry. He also enjoys coaching wrestling and volunteering at his church.
