Our cooperative has long offered high-quality collection services to domestic and international A.I. companies, but have recently remodeled and expanded our capacity to make this an option for all producers desiring to have their dairy and beef bulls collected for private use or public sale. Our current facility offers custom collection and storage services to the public for both CSS and non-CSS certified semen. Our experienced staff has been collecting and processing semen for many years. We understand the importance of proper evaluation and that the fertility of the semen is of the utmost importance. We are laser-focused on producing straws that will get cows pregnant.

SORTING

Partnering with STgenetics®, we will transport the CSS collection to an ST lab for sorting. Units are returned to our Illinois facility for storage or shipment.

STORAGE

Our facility can store 100,000 units at a time.

HOUSING

We have housing available at both our CSS and non-CSS facilities.

Sire Services FAQ:

1What is the difference between CSS and non-CSS?

Certified Semen Services (CSS) is a subsidiary of National Association of Animal Breeders. CSS provides a minimum standard of the health monitoring and disease surveillance of bulls prior to entering isolation, during the isolation period and throughout the residency at an A.I. center. It outlines proper sanitary procedures and includes requirements for the addition of appropriate antibiotics to semen and extender to provide control for pathogenic and microbial contamination. The goal of these requirements is to protect the health of the seminal donors and the herds in which the semen is used. Non-CSS is self-regulated. Semen collected in a non-CSS application is not qualified to be exported, but can be used and sold domestically. Our non-CSS area will use many of the health requirements and donor housing protocols we already use in the CSS facility.

2How does the pricing structure work?

Our pricing is volume-based. We have a price sheet that is followed and is linked in the forms above. Higher-volume (2,001+ units) pricing is negotiable.

3When can I take semen home?

Customers can take semen home upon passage of quality checks. All services must be paid for prior to semen leaving the facility. Semen can also be shipped domestically for non-CSS. CSS semen can be exported anywhere outside of the European Union and China. Shipping and handling fees apply.

4Can I store semen at SSMC Sire Services?

Yes, semen collected at our facility can be stored for customers. Inventories will be completed and billed quarterly. The customer will be billed 15 cents per unit counted in inventory at the end of each fiscal quarter. 15 cents/per unit/per quarter.

5What are the business hours?

Our typical production days are Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM (CST). We do handle bull deliveries and pick-ups outside of these hours by pre-arrangement only. Tours of facility must also be scheduled. Contact Logan Ridge with any of these requests.
