Select Sires Member Cooperative Announces Launch of ProTECH, Professional Artificial Insemination Technician Training & Auditing Program
January 9, 2025 – Select Sires Member Cooperative (SSMC) is eager to announce the launch of ProTECH, an innovative, modern and comprehensive training and auditing program. Not only is it designed to enhance the skill of employed technicians, we will also offer an on-farm auditing program. This has been developed to provide skill awareness and troubleshooting for internal technicians of our member-owners. This cutting-edge program aims to enhance the proficiency and consistent success rates of our A.I. technicians and those employed on farms that we support, thereby advancing the genetic potential and productivity of our member-owner’s cattle herds.
ProTECH has been meticulously developed by industry experts at SSMC, a leader in cattle breeding and reproductive technologies. The program combines theoretical knowledge with hands-on practical large-scale experience to ensure that participants are thoroughly prepared and consistent in their reproductive results. New ProTECH employees to our team will undergo a rigorous training program encompassing all aspects of reproductive management needed for dairy operations of all sizes. Throughout this process, candidates will encounter everyday scenarios including the use of the CowManager® monitoring system that will prepare them to meet the needs of member-owners we serve.
"We are thrilled to launch the ProTECH training program," said Chris Sigurdson, CEO of SSMC. "This initiative renews our decades-long commitment to advancing the dairy and beef industries by providing high-quality education, training and auditing of A.I. technicians. We believe that ProTECH can have a significant impact for overall job satisfaction of professional A.I. technicians as well as enhance the profitability of member-owner herds through increased consistent results of on-farm reproductive programs.”
SSMC invites individuals interested in pursuing a career as a professional A.I. technician to apply and then be enrolled in the ProTECH program upon hiring. This 2-week to 90-day intense curriculum program is open to both newcomers to the field and experienced individuals looking to enhance their skills. We expect to produce highly professional technicians capable of managing the daily responsibilities of a ProTECH A.I. technician. The skills learned will encompass all aspects of what it takes to achieve consistent, elite reproductive performance results.
