Sawyer Reid joins SSMC ProTECH team in Ohio
Select Sires Member Cooperative (SSMC) is pleased to announce the addition of Sawyer Reid. He serves small and large dairy operations in North Central Ohio as a Professional Artificial Insemination (A.I.) Technician as part of the ProTECH team. In his relief role, Sawyer works with other ProTECH technicians to meet the daily reproductive goals of each producer. He will partner with SSMC customers in the territories serviced by SSMC Account Managers Kevin Hinds and Luke Hilton by providing relief for four technicians, Will Hughes, Rusty Reid, Cormac Irwin, and Tanner Topp.
Sawyer grew up deeply involved in livestock production and agricultural management. As a seventh-generation livestock producer and owner-operator, he was inspired by production agriculture from a young age. His experience and education extend beyond his family’s operation. Sawyer graduated from The Ohio State University, where he studied production animal science with a focus on beef and dairy cattle management.
During his time at Ohio State, he completed internships with several leading producers in both the dairy and beef industries and spent a summer as a Select Sires Member Cooperative intern. “These experiences gave me valuable insight into genetics, herd management, and the business side of livestock production. I also discovered a strong passion for judging and evaluating livestock, which continues to influence how I approach teaching and herd improvement today,” shared Sawyer.
“Sawyer has a strong mix of dairy and beef knowledge. As a past intern, he was well prepared to step into his current role as a ProTech technician. I will enjoy watching his career develop,” commented Scott Winchell, Technician Services Manager in Ohio for SSMC.
Sawyer stated, “I’m most excited to work directly with producers and customers to help strengthen operations through data-driven and practical management strategies. I look forward to applying my background in both beef and dairy production to support customers in improving efficiency, animal health, and long-term sustainability.”
Outside of his work with SSMC, he is active in the agricultural community – raising cattle, mentoring youth in livestock judging and showmanship, and supporting local fairs and educational programs. He enjoys being part of organizations that promote agricultural education and leadership development, helping the next generation of producers build confidence and skill in the industry.
