Select Sires Member Cooperative (SSMC) was established on October 1, 2023, after the boards of directors of All West/Select Sires, COBA/Select Sires, Select Sires MidAmerica, and Minnesota/Select Sires voted unanimously, and then further ratified by delegates and members, to merge as one cooperative, representing the Select Sires federation in 27 U.S. states and the country of Mexico.

1941The beginning of All West/Select Sires was established.
1945The beginning of Select Sires MidAmerica was established.
1946The beginning of COBA/Select Sires was established.
1986The beginning of Minnesota/Select Sires Co-op (MNSS) was established.
June 2022-September 2022COBA/MNSS began formal conversations to merge, and their Chairs reached out to all other cooperatives. Select Sires MidAmerica and All West/Select Sires showed interest. General Managers of these four cooperatives were instructed to select a consultant.
September 2022-November 2022Feasibility study was presented by consultant. Discussion about the pros and cons and the goals/priorities of each company took place. General Managers were instructed to develop a Letter of Intent.
December 2022All boards unanimously supported signing a Letter of Intent to further explore a potential four-way merger. Boards assigned planning and negotiating responsibility to the Board Presidents and General Managers of each co-op.
January 2023-February 2023Partners worked on the 12 key foundational topics. Over the course of many hours of planning and meetings, the partners agreed on the foundational issues. Work began on Articles, Bylaws, Governance Planning and a Director Handbook.
March 2023-May 2023Articles, Bylaws, Supplemental Agreements and Governance Plan were completed. Unanimous support was given by the Board Presidents to move forward with further meetings.
June 2023Executive Committees of each cooperative met to review the process and information to date. Directors of each cooperative were provided with all cooperative documents that were completed at this time.
July 11, 2023All four cooperative Boards of Directors voted unanimously to sign a Plan of Merger. Vote was then moved to the delegates or members to vote based on the Bylaws of each cooperative. Employees of all four cooperatives were informed about the possibility of this merger.
August 1, 2023Positive vote was received from all cooperatives to proceed as one.
October 1, 2023Select Sires Member Cooperative began.
